The Sultanate will host the third CISM’s Military World Cup for Soccer 2017 during from January 13 to 29. This was announced during the press conference held on Monday at Al Shafaq Club by Air Commodore Maktoum bin Salim al Mazroui, Assistant Chief of Staff for Training and Joint Exercises and Head of the Organizing Committee for the Military World Cup for Soccer 2017, and Captain Abdul Hakeem bin Hamad al Shano, Chairman of the International Military Sports Council (CISM). Over 16 military teams will take part in the tournament. Lt Col Khalid bin Ali al Jabri, Acting Director of Military Sports, said that coordination has been maintained with the Omani Football Association (OFA), the Ministry of Sports Affairs and the Olympic Committee to benefit from the ex-experiences. Three stadiums were assigned to the tournament namely Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, Police Stadium and Al Seeb Stadium in addition to a number of sub playgrounds. The Omani military football team has won Asia Cup qualifying for CISM in 2013, which was held in the Sultanate. The team came second at the military world cup, which was held in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
