The Timeline of the most significant events and developments in the History of Media.

 

 

1.December,1970: The Ministry of Information was first established under the name of the Ministry of Information, Social Affairs and Labour. The late author and poet Abdullah bin Mohammed al-Taei took over its responsibilities at that time.

 

2. In 1972: The information  functions and responsibilities was detached from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour to be entrusted to the Directorate of Information and later to the Directorate of Information and Tourism.

 

3.November 17,  1973: The Ministry of Information and Tourism was established  and  His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said was appointed as the Minister.

 

4. December  8, 1974: The Ministry of Information and Tourism was renamed to the Ministry of Information and Culture.

 

5.  May 22, 1979: His Excellency Abdul Aziz bin Mohammed al –Rowas was appointed as the Minister of Information and Youth Affairs.

 

6.May 23, 1982: The name of the Ministry of Information and Youth Affairs was amended to the Ministry of Information as the youth affairs was delivered to the Ministry of Education and Youth Affairs.

 

7. June 10, 2001: His Excellency Hamad bin Mohammed al-Rashidi was appointed as the Minister of Information.

 

8. February 29, 2012: His Excellency Dr. Abdulmunim bin Mansour bin Said al-Hasani was appointed as the Minister of Information.
 
 
9. November 4, 2015: His Majesty Sultan Qaboos issued a Royal Decree No. 45/2015, approving the Organizational Structure of the Ministry of Information.
